The field of potential GOP presidential candidates just got a little smaller: Governor Haley Barbour of Mississippi announced today that he had decided not to run, sending the remaining candidates scrambling for his donors and supporters. “I will not be a candidate for president next year,” Barbour said. “This has been a difficult, personal decision, and I am very grateful to my family for their total support of my going forward, had that been what I decided.” Barbour had been testing the waters of a presidential bid for months, traveling to Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, and he was widely expected to announce his candidacy this week.
