A half-naked man who on Sunday set his own car ablaze before trying to stab New York City police officers was shot several times by responding officers, but is expected to survive, NYPD Chief of Patrol Rodney Harrison said. At about 3 p.m., the unidentified man crashed his car into a marked police SUV in Queens, Harrison said. The suspect then left his car, and doused both vehicles in accelerant, before setting his car on fire. When officers approached the suspect, he brandished a 12-inch kitchen knife and ran at them. Two officers opened fire, striking the man multiple times in his torso and leg. The suspect was transferred to New York Presbyterian Hospital in Queens, and is now in stable condition and is expected to survive. Charges against the man are pending.
