The parents who chained their 13 children to their beds in their California home pleaded guilty Friday to torture, abuse, and child endangerment charges. According to CNN, David and Louise Turpin pleaded guilty to 14 charges, including “torture, adult abuse, child endangerment, [and] false imprisonment.” The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office said the parents face between 25 years to life in prison. Louise Turpin reportedly wiped tears from her face as the judge read the charges. “This is among the worst, most aggravated child abuse cases I have ever seen,” District Attorney Mike Hestrin said. The Turpins were arrested in January 2018 after police discovered they had shackled their 13 children—including seven adults—to their beds with chains in their “filthy” home. One of their children, a 17-year-old, escaped from the house and called police from a cellphone she found in the house. CNN reports she had been planning her escape for over two years. David Turpin’s attorney declined to comment to CNN. Louise Turpin’s lawyer reportedly did not respond to requests for comment.
