Not everyone’s applauding Christiane Amanpour’s new job at This Week. Washington Post television writer Tom Shales calls Amanpour “the opposite of the perfect candidate.” The problem, he says, is that Amanpour is “widely considered to be deficient” in the inside-the-Beltway chatter that has been the program’s main fare. Shales says that White House correspondent Jake Tapper or Nightline co-anchor Terry Moran would have been better choices. The selection of Amanpour is especially galling, Shales says, in light of recent massive layoffs at ABC News, which is “in the position of having to rationalize spending big bucks on a superstar while making brutal cutbacks in the division.”
