John Travolta Butchers Idina Menzel’s Name and More Presenter Screw Ups
‘Adele Dazim?’ Yeah…not even close, John. From Elizabeth Taylor to James Franco, see more award show fails.
John Travolta butchered the Frozen singer’s name so badly. “Adele Dazim?” Yeah…not even close, John. He was actually going for Idina Menzel. Don’t they have teleprompters?!
This, of course, isn’t the first time a presenter has flubbed. Zac Efron fumbled through the words “inspiring” and “aspirational” when introducing “The Moon Song,” and Kim Novak had a bit of a, err, odd presentation with Matthew McConaughey. We all can’t be perfect.
And the award goes to…Frank.
Two of the nominees for Best Director at the 1934 Academy Awards had the same first name, Frank. Mr. Capra and Mr. Lloyd both thought that host Will Rogers was referring to them when he said, “Come on up and get it Frank!” Capra rushed on stage as the spotlight searched for Lloyd, the real victor. Capra’s walk back to his seat must’ve been awkward.
Who needs nominees? Not Elizabeth Taylor.
Upon announcing the award for Best Motion Picture Drama at the 2001 Golden Globes a visibly inebriated Taylor, opened the envelope before announcing the nominees. “And the winner is…it’s flashing ‘envelope,’” the actress slurred.
When the teleprompter fails…
At the 2013 Golden Globes, Salma Hayek and Paul Rudd presented the award for Best Actor in a TV series. Unfortunately, the teleprompter stopped working. They both awkwardly stood there. It’s hard to ad-lib when you have nothing to go off of.
“Seymour Phillip Hoffman,” one of the greatest actors of our time.
Remember James Franco and Anne Hathaway?
James Franco and Anne Hathaway hosted the 2011 Oscar debacle. And yes, while the didn't present awards, specifically, they did present a lot of people. He was a seemingly stoned zombie and she did the jitterbug the entire show (no, not really). It wasn't great.
