WAKE UP CALL
Khloé Kardashian: Kim ‘Not Doing Well’ After Paris Robbery Wake Up Call
On The Ellen DeGeneres Show Tuesday, Khloé Kardashian took on the role of family spokesperson to say they are going to “pull back” from living in public.
The usually ubiquitous Kardashian family has all but disappeared from the media — both social and traditional — over the past week following Kim Kardashian’s harrowing armed robbery ordeal in Paris. If they were going to show up anywhere, it would be in a safe space like The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and that’s how Khloé Kardashian found herself speaking on behalf of her sister on Tuesday.
Asked how Kim is doing a week after the incident, Khloé was quick to say, "I mean, she's not doing that well. I mean, it's incredibly traumatic what happened to her, but our family is super close and great and we'll get through it together, and we do appreciate all of your guys' love and support and it will take time.”
As for the family’s rare decision to stay out of the spotlight, Khloé added, "Well, I think it's just a wake up call to make a lot of life adjustments.” She explained Kim isn’t ready to “move on” from the “emotional terror she experienced,” but also said she thinks it’s smart for the whole family to “pull back a little bit” from sharing every moment of their lives. The robbers reportedly demanded Kim hand over the enormous diamond ring she had recently flaunted on Instagram.
Comedian Kevin Hart, serving as DeGeneres’ co-host for the day, commended Khloé for stressing the importance of “family,” saying, “That’s the dope thing about the Kardashian family, is that you guys do stick together.” For a moment, it seemed that he might have forgotten about that time just days before the robbery when the family did anything but “stick together,” but then he asked, “How’s Rob?”
Hart was referring to Khloé’s brother Rob Kardashian, who last month tweeted out the private cell phone number of his 19-year-old half sister Kylie Jenner after the family apparently failed to invite his pregnant wife Blac Chyna to her own baby shower. Days later, Chyna tweeted out Rob’s number in response. Just in case viewers, as well as DeGeneres, didn’t know the whole story, Hart did a masterful recap in about 30 seconds.
“Rob is good,” Khloé said, noting that she was just hanging out with him the day before. She went on to explain that the event from which Chyna was excluded was not technically a baby shower, but instead a “DILF shower,” a term that had to be explained to both DeGeneres and Hart. Basically, she said, it was a shower just for guys, with “barber stuff” and other masculine activities. But since it was a surprise, Rob didn’t understand why his wife was not invited — especially since all of his sisters were still there. “He took it the wrong way,” Khloé said, stressing that Chyna knew that the event was supposed to be for guys only. “It was a misunderstanding,” she added.
“It’s the only thing I heard anything about, and the whole thing was a misunderstanding,” DeGeneres lamented.
Despite theories that the Paris robbery was either a publicity stunt or an insurance scam, Kim Kardashian does appear to be taking her retreat from the spotlight seriously. Most tellingly, E! has halted production on the family’s reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians and has not made any announcements about when it will resume.
