Fashionistas on a budget are squealing with delight: Lanvin is hopping on board with H&M designer collaborations and will launch collections of womenswear and menswear for the chain store on November 23. Lanvin Artistic Director Alber Elbaz will design the women’s clothing, while men’s Ready-to-Wear Designer Lucas Ossendrijver will design the menswear. Some are surprised to see Lanvin taking part. Last year Elbaz said, according to New York Magazine, “I have a problem to do a collection that is a secondary line. I mean, you don't want to be the stepsister. You want to be Cinderella. Show me one girl who wants to be the stepsister.” In Wednesday’s overnight H&M press release, he explained: “H&M approached us to collaborate, and see if we could translate the dream we created at Lanvin to a wider audience, not just a dress for less. I have said in the past that I would never do a mass-market collection, but what intrigued me was the idea of H&M going luxury rather than Lanvin going public.” Images of the collections will debut on November 2 with a short film on the H&M website.
