U.S. Senator John McCain has beaten back challengers and won the Arizona Republican primary in his Senate re-election bid. The 80-year-old now has the right to seek a sixth term in November, after defeating former state Sen. Kelli Ward and two other Republicans. The 2008 Republican presidential nominee will now face off in the November general election against U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, a Democrat.
