Officials in New Zealand acknowledged on Monday that the 29 miners trapped in a coal mine may be dead as they continued to struggle to reach them. “We are planning for all outcomes, and as part of this process we're planning for the possible loss of life as a result of what's occurred underground,” said New Zealand’s police superintendent. Rescuers are currently drilling a borehole, and it’s expected to take until Tuesday morning before they’re able to insert cameras and listening devices into the mine. Rescue efforts have been hampered by large concentrations of deadly gas in the mine.
