CNN's Piers Morgan is once again insisting that he never oversaw phone hacking as the editor of The Daily Mirror: “I have never hacked a phone, told anyone to hack a phone, nor to my knowledge published any story obtained from the hacking of a phone,” Morgan insisted after Heather Mills, Paul McCartney’s ex-wife, said a journalist from the Mirror Group called her in 2001 and confessed to hacking her phone. Morgan admitted in 2006 that he had listened to a voicemail McCartney left for Mills—“at one stage I was played a tape of a message Paul had left for Heather on her mobile phone,” he wrote. But now Morgan is adamant in his denial, accusing Mills of “unsubstantiated claims” and saying she herself hacked her ex’s phone: “Sir Paul McCartney asserted that Heather Mills illegally intercepted his telephones, and leaked confidential material to the media.”
