Dorothea Lange

Destitute Pea Pickers in California, a 32-year-old Mother of Seven Children. Lange took this photo when working for the Farm Security Administration as part of Roosevelt's New Deal. The FSA produced some of the most remarkable social documentary photographs of the 20th century in an attempt to produce a record of American life between 1935 and 1944. Other FSA photographers included Jack Delano and Ben Shahn.
