Brazil’s senate voted to impeach President Dilma Rousseff in a 55-22 majority after she was accused of hiding significant budget deficits through accounting tricks. The decision came early Thursday after a more than 20-hour session. Rousseff’s trial in the senate could last as long as six months; in the meantime, Vice President Michel Temer will temporarily replace her. The process will ultimately decide whether the country’s first female president will be allowed to serve the rest of her second term or if she’ll be replaced by Temer through December 2018.
