Rita Ora’s performance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade sparked an uproar on Twitter on Thursday, with many mocking the 27-year-old singer after she was apparently caught lip syncing at the coldest parade since 1901. Video of Ora’s performance shows her missing the cue to start singing her new song, “Let You Love Me,” as the pre-recorded track plays in the background. Camera operators covering the event reportedly panned out to avoid any close-ups of Ora’s lips as she struggled to get back into sync with the song. While Twitter was flooded with comments about Ora being “caught” lip syncing, singer John Legend quickly came to her defense. “Fun fact. We all have to lip sync on this parade because the floats don't have the capacity to handle the sound requirements for a live performance,” he tweeted. Ora later took to Twitter herself to echo Legend’s explanation, saying she always sings live at her concerts. “You know this girl doesn’t lip sync it’s not my world! Now let me go find some turkey!!” she tweeted. Singer Kelly Clarkson reportedly opted not to rely on lip syncing despite freezing temperatures, reportedly telling parade officials that she brought her entire band with her because, “I sing live.” Diana Ross, Martina McBride, and the Muppets from Sesame Street also performed at the parade. Thousands of spectators braved temperatures as low as 19 degrees and strong wind gusts to take part in the time-honored tradition and watch giant balloon characters fly through the streets.
