The Supreme Court has decided to welcome the 21st Century and make briefs and other filings accessible online “as soon as 2016,” according to Chief Justice John Roberts. Print copies of such documents are currently available to the public, but the highest court in the land will aim to make them available electronically, wrote Roberts in his “2014 Year-End Report on the Federal Judiciary.” However, Roberts was also defensive in the report of the Supreme Court's seemingly more antiquated traditions, such as barring televised recording of sessions. “Like other centuries-old institutions, courts may have practices that seem archaic and inefficient — and some are,” he wrote. “But others rest on traditions that embody intangible wisdom.”
