More than 2,000 people gathered in a Baltimore cathedral Saturday for the funeral of Yeardley Love, the 22-year-old University of Virginia lacrosse player who was found murdered last week. Love's coach Julie Myers told the crowd, "Yeardley was the player who made everyone feel better. As genuine, kind, and gentle as she was, she was also tough as nails on the lacrosse field....She played with the heart of a lion." Love's teammates led a procession of family and friends into the church to begin the funeral mass. The program for the funeral featured an essay Love had written when she was a freshman in high school. She wrote, "If I had to wish for three things in my life, they would be to go to the University of Virginia for college, have a happy and healthy family when I grow up, and to always keep in touch and stay close with my family. So far my life has been filled with joy and happiness, and I hope to keep living my life that way." Love's ex-boyfriend George Huguely, a member of the men's lacrosse team at Virginia, has been charged with her murder.
