Jennifer Lawrence set the bar for 2013 fashion standards when she wore what was arguably the best look of the year—a light pink Dior gown—to the Academy Awards. From Michelle Obama’s Thom Browne coat to Selena Gomez in Atelier Versace and the Kim Kardashian Met Gala dress that took the Internet by storm, here’s a look at the highs and lows of the year.

Best Dressed, Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker was one of the only stars who didn't look like a total mess at this year's Met Gala, themed: "PUNK: Chaos to Couture." While the actress looked stunning in a patterned Giles Deacon gown and simple Christian Louboutin boots, it was her edgy, gold-and-feathered Philip Treacy headpiece that seriously stole the show.

Best Dressed, Jessica Chastain

At the 2013 BAFTA Awards in February, the Zero Dark Thirty star—who was nominated for best actress—deserved a prize for her bright blue Rouland Moret gown.

Best Dressed, Rihanna

Bad gal RiRi's looks this the year have been all over the place. But the singer's red Alaia gown, paired with a red lip, at the Grammy's showed that Rihanna may have a "good girl" side after all.

Best Dressed, Jennifer Lawrence

If there's anyone who can give Cara Delevingne a run for her money as 2013's biggest 'thing,' it's Jennifer Lawrence. J. Law, who had a major motion picture year with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and American Hustle, also stole the red carpet in a slew of Dior gowns. Her biggest standout, however, happened at the beginning of 2013 at the Academy Awards. Lawrence sported a strapless, light pink gown with a bustling train by the designer.

Best Dressed, Naomi Campbell

To celebrate the opening of the Azzedine Alaia retrospective at The Palais Galleria in Paris, Naomi Campbell was a vision in a floor-length, sleeveless, blue-ish green turtleneck gown by the designer. Plus, the supermodel's sleek bob—which was a nice change from her long locks—seriously stole the show.

Best Dressed, Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez grew up a lot this year. The most notable step in her maturity, however, was replacing her relationship with Justin Bieber with a killer red carpet relationship with Versace. The actress/singer stole the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards in a deep blue Atelier Versace gown, featuring a serious side-slit and a cut-out bodice, with coordinating Lorraine Schwartz earrings.

Best Dressed, Rose Byrne

Rose Byrne was a surprise hit at this year's Emmy Awards, keeping things simple in a pale-pink, custom Calvin Klein Collection sleeveless wrap halter top and skirt showing a slight midriff.

Best Dressed, Michelle Obama

When Michelle Obama stepped out for her husband's second presidential inauguration, the name on everybody's lips was "Thom Browne." Most non-fashion folks were unfamiliar with the New York-based designer—best known for his menswear. Yet Obama's silk a-line coat and dress, cinched at the waist with a bejeweled J.Crew belt, was the talk of the town.

2013's "It" girl Cara Delevingne gave her wild and crazy style a rest for the evening, when she attended this year's Met Galathemed "PUNK: Chaos to Couture"—in a studded black Burberry dress, bag, and shoes complete with a half-shaved head and two Genevieve Jones ear cuffs alongside photographer Mario Testino.

Best Dressed, Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton was formal, yet fashion-forward at the chistening of Prince George at Saint James's Place in London. The Duchess wore an ivory ruffled jacket and skirt from Alexander McQueen, paired with a Jane Taylor fascinator and simple nude heels. The outfit choice coordinated perfectly with little George's christening gown, and was reminiscent of The Duchess's wedding dress, also designed by McQueen's Sarah Burton.

Best Dressed, Tilda Swinton

While many may not understand Tilda Swinton's androgynous style, the fashion world has fully embraced her quirky, menswear-inspired looks. One particular standout was the shimmering gold Haider Ackermann pants-set the actress wore to the Only Lovers Left Alive premiere at Cannes.

Best Dressed, Katy Perry

Katy Perry ditched her usually quirky style for a ladylike ensemble at the American Music Awards. The singer looked ladylike in a strapless black Oscar de la Renta gown with white polka dots and subtle pink and red flower appliqués paired with a playful Olympia Le Tan book clutch.

Best Dressed, Gisele Bündchen

It's no surprise Gisele was named this year's highest paid supermodel when she looks this good. The model was a particular standout, however, in the navy blue, glistening Atelier Versace dress she wore to WSJ Magazine's "Innovator Of The Year" awards. Bündchen sported the same dress on the magazine's November cover alongside Daft Punk.

Worst Dressed, Kim Kardashian

More surprising than Kim Kardashian being allowed to attend this year's Met Gala was the sofa-esque floral custom Givenchy dress she wore to the event. The internet spun into a frenzy, with even Robin Williams comparing Kardashian's dress to his Mrs. Doubtfire character. Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci, however, came to Kardashian's defense. "I have dressed many pregnant women in the past," he told WWD. "People can say what they want. To me, pregnancy is the most beautiful thing in the world, and when you celebrate something, you give people flowers. I think she looked amazing. She was the most beautiful pregnant woman I dressed in my career."

Worst Dressed, Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus had way too many questionable outfits—and actions—to count this year, but the NY Vintage dress the singer wore to the MTV EMA's in Amsterdam, which featured a plunging neckline, images of Tupac and Notorious BIG, and said "Please Stop the Violence" across her derriere, seriously took the cake.

Worst Dressed, Jaimie Alexander

Just when we thought celebrity cleavage couldn't get any crazier, Jaimie Alexander proved it could—with full-body cleavage. The actress wore an Azarro Couture dress to the premiere of Thor: The Dark World that left little to the imagination.

Worst Dressed, Kanye West

Kanye has clearly shown he's a fan of masks, donning Maison Martin Margiela's bedazzled creations on numerous occassions—including on his Yeezus tour. The rapper wore a more simple, red version of the ski mask at the brand's fashion show in Paris in a look that left many questions unanswered: Is Kanye cold? Does he think people won't recognize him? And really, how can he breathe?!

Worst Dressed, Madonna

Did Madonna take the punk theme of this year's Met Gala a bit too far? Forever pantsless, maybe it's finally time for Madge to dress her age?
