A 33-year-old Georgia landscaper is the third person to have a rare flesh-eating infection that has grabbed headlines in recent weeks. Doctors insist that the case of Cartersville resident Bobby Vaughn bears no connection to those of two other people afflicted with the disease, but they’ve been baffled by the oddity of three concurrent cases of necrotizing fasciitis. “I just started feeling very sick,” Vaughn told reporters from his hospital bed in Augusta, Ga. “I was throwing up and had a backache. I just thought it was a little infection.” Vaughn has reportedly undergone five surgeries and lost two pounds of tissue, but said doctors do not think the bacteria is spreading anymore.
