Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has blamed more than 2,000 deaths on the Syrian government, and said that President Bashar al-Assad has lost legitimacy. Clinton said, “We’ve seen the Assad regime continue and intensify its assault against its own people this week.” She added, “We think to date the government is responsible for the deaths of more than 2,000 people of all ages.” Clinton also indicated that the U.S. is trying to apply more pressure on the Syrian government. Assad says that the current violence is being carried out by “armed criminal gangs.” At least 150 people have been killed across the country since Sunday.
