Fourteen people were killed Saturday when a Colombian plane plummeted from the sky halfway through its flight, Reuters reports. The Laser Aereo airlines plane made a distress call at about 10:40 a.m. local time, authorities said, and crashed soon after in San Carlos de Guaroa. There were no survivors, and one victim was the mayor of a small town in a jungle province. It’s not yet clear why the crash occurred; Laser Aereo told Reuters that it had no immediate comment. The country’s civil aviation agency reported that the plane’s navigability permissions were current, as were the crew’s medical trainings.
