3 U.N. Workers Killed as Sudan Army Battles Rival Force

At least two dozen people have been killed and scores more injured as tensions boiled over.

Three U.N. workers are among the dozens killed in fighting between Sudan’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces—former allies who orchestrated a 2021 military coup and are now at odds over a transition to civilian power. The BBC reported the workers, who were with the World Food Program, were caught in a gun battle between the two groups at a military base. Other skirmishes broke out in Khartoum, where tanks rolled through the streets.
