At least 540 million Facebook records—including users’ likes, comments, and account names—were exposed to the public on Amazon’s cloud computing servers, according to a Wednesday report from CNN. The data appears to have been collected through one of the integration sources that allow third-party developers to connect their product to the platform. It’s not yet clear how many users had their data exposed. A spokesperson for Facebook—a company that’s no stranger to data privacy issues—told CNN Business that company policies “prohibit storing Facebook information in a public database.” He added that “Once alerted to the issue, we worked with Amazon to take down the databases. We are committed to working with the developers on our platform to protect people’s data.”
