9-Year-Old Runs for Help When Tornado Traps Parents in Totaled Truck

A heroic 9-year-old boy raced to get help after a tornado lifted his parent’s truck into a patch of trees in Dickson, Oklahoma, on Saturday. Parents Marvin Wayne Baker and Lindy Baker were seriously injured in the crash, but their son Branson was miraculously unharmed, able to escape the totaled vehicle, and run through the storm to get help at a family friend’s house over a mile away, his uncle Johnny Baker told ABC News. By the time Branson came back with help, first responders had already arrived, but his bravery wasn’t lost on anyone. “A lot [of] grown adults wouldn't have done that. We see videos all the time, have grown adults sitting there, watching things happen and not helping, where this 9-year-old kid just went into action,” said Baker. “The last thing Branson told them was ‘Mom, Dad, please don’t die, I will be back.’” Both parents suffered back and neck injuries, but are in fair condition, according to Baker. A GoFundMe has been launched to pay for the family’s medical expenses. At least five people died as several tornadoes tore across the state Saturday.
