Afghan Interior Minister Bismullah Khan survived an assassination attempt Sunday in Parwan, north of Kabul, officials say. The minister's bodyguards shot and killed the attacker, a would-be suicide bomber who approached Khan's convoy, which had stopped for prayers, a ministry spokesman said. The failed attempt is the latest in a string of violent incidents in the north of the country, which had until now been relatively isolated from the Taliban-led insurgency.
