State Department issues urgent travel advice as region reels from dramatic liquidation of top Iranian military commander.

U.S. citizens in Iraq have been told to leave the country “immediately” as fears for the stability of the region escalate in the wake of the killing of Iran’s top military commander, Qassem Soleimani. The emergency travel advice issued by the State Department did not mention him by name, instead referring to “heightened tensions in Iraq and the region.” The advice added that U.S. citizens should stay away from the U.S. embassy.
