A major anti-corruption nonprofit group founded by Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been designated as a foreign agent by the Kremlin in a move that’s likely to hinder its activities. Foundation for Fighting Corruption rose to prominence with investigations into official corruption, and has became a nationwide network of Navalny supporters who have been staging opposition rallies in their areas. The Russian justice ministry said in a statement Wednesday that the group had been added to the foreign agents’ list, which previously has been used to stigmatize nonprofits. The foundation’s director, Ivan Zhdanov, said it hasn’t accepted any foreign funding and the move was an attempt to disrupt its work.
