Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney has been appointed to an academic role at her alma mater, the University of Oxford. She will join Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government to “advance access to justice around the world” as a visiting professor of practice in international law. The wife of Hollywood actor George Clooney already lectures at Columbia Law School in New York and said that she is “honoured to be back at Oxford, this time not as a student but as a professor,” the Telegraph reported. The acclaimed lawyer graduated with a BA in jurisprudence from St Hugh’s College, Oxford, in 20000 and was awarded the Exhibition scholarship and the Shrigley Award for excellence in law studies as an undergraduate. Now, Clooney will be “collaborating with both faculty and students to advance access to justice around the world, she said in a statement. And she will do so at the university she has previously praised for “giving me my shot and my legal compass.” Clooney’s role is usually reserved for alumni who have demonstrated notable contributions in their specific field. “As a pre-eminent practitioner and scholar, Amal’s expertise and insights will greatly enhance the school’s research and teaching,” Ngaire Woods, the dean of the Blavatnik School of Government, said.
