Amandla Stenberg, best known for her breakout role as Rue in The Hunger Games films, officially came out as gay in an interview with queer musician King Princess. In the interview for Wonderland magazine, Stenberg referenced Ellen Degeneres’ landmark Time magazine cover from 1997 while confirming her sexuality. The actress had previously come out as bisexual, but now rejects that label. “I was so overcome with this profound sense of relief when I realized that I’m gay—not bi, not pan, but gay—with a romantic love for women,” Stenberg explained in the interview. She said that after “years of pent up pain and shame” she finally feels free to live her “best life.”
