Amtrak Train Stranded for Over 24 Hours Now Returning to Seattle
TRAPPED
An Amtrak train bound for Los Angeles with 183 people on board was stranded in Oregon for over 24 hours after the vehicle hit a tree that had fallen onto the tracks during a Sunday night storm. Amtrak has now announced that the train is en route to Seattle, where it departed from on Sunday. Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari told CNN that while none of the passengers were injured, “conditions further deteriorated with numerous track blockages from snow and fallen trees.” The spokesman went on: “Due to worsening conditions, area road closures and no viable way to safely transport passengers or crews via alternate transportation, Train 11 stopped in Oakridge, Oregon.” The train, which runs daily between Seattle and Los Angeles on Union Pacific tracks, had power and food and water, which was being handed out free of charge. Passenger Rebekah Dodson said train staff remained “great, very professional,” but added that people started to run out of hygiene products and diapers for their children. “We can’t get off the train because there’s four feet of snow in every direction,” she said.
