Since Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) announced her 2020 presidential on Sunday, she has faced a litany of accusations that she has long mistreated staffers in her Washington, D.C., office, including verbally abusing employees in front of their colleagues for minor mistakes. A new report from Yahoo News also accuses Klobuchar of retaliating against staffers who found work elsewhere by calling their new employers to have their offers rescinded. The practice, which three former staffers reportedly described to Yahoo as “vindictive, mystifying and counterproductive,” is an example of the lengths that Klobuchar would allegedly go to in order to punish those who she thought betrayed her.
Former staffers of the senator say she was “habitually demeaning and prone to bursts of cruelty,” HuffPost reports. Klobuchar allegedly would send e-mails criticizing employees with large groups of other staffers cc’ed on them, adding to the humiliation. A campaign spokesperson told HuffPost that Klobuchar “loves her staff” and was “proud of them and the work they have done for Minnesota.”
