Andrew Wheeler, who was serving as the deputy administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, will take over as acting administrator of the agency on Monday after Scott Pruitt resigned from the post. “Within the Agency Scott has done an outstanding job, and I will always be thankful to him for this. The Senate confirmed Deputy at EPA, Andrew Wheeler, will on Monday assume duties as the acting Administrator of the EPA,” Trump tweeted Thursday afternoon. “I have no doubt that Andy will continue on with our great and lasting EPA agenda.” In his resignation letter, Pruitt wrote that the “unrelenting attacks” on him and his family led him to resign. Wheeler, a former coal lobbyist, told the Washington Examiner earlier this month that he had no interest in taking Pruitt’s job. “I wasn’t interested in that,” he said. “I am still not interested in that. I am the deputy administrator and that is what I am focused on doing.” Pruitt’s resignation comes after months of scandals over his spending habits and alleged unethical behavior.
