A high school basketball official in Arizona has been fired after reportedly asking the visiting team’s coach if his players had their green cards ahead of a game, Tucson.com reports. The racist remark came prior to a freshman high school game Tuesday night as the coaches and officials were getting together on the court for introductions at Walden Grove High School in Sahuarita, according to a spokesman for the Arizona Interscholastic Association. The AIA has yet to name the official. Tucson Unified School District director of interscholastics Herman House reported the comment Wednesday morning, and the official was fired soon after, according to the report. The visiting players, from a predominantly Hispanic high school, reportedly heard the remark but won praise afterwords on Facebook for playing a good game anyway.
