Why autistic men are viewing child pornography—and being labeled sex offenders.
Eustacia Cutler, the mother of autism advocate Temple Grandin, is the author of the 2006 book A Thorn in My Pocket, which describes raising her daughter in the 1950s, when children with autism were routinely diagnosed as infant schizophrenics and banished to institutions. Her research on autism and retardation established the basis of two WGBH television documentaries: The Disquieted and The Innocents. She earned a B.A. from Harvard, was a band singer at New York’s Pierre Hotel, and wrote school lessons for major TV networks.
