Colombian travel writer Nikki Vargas grew up with horror stories about FARC, including the alleged murder of her great-aunt. She returned to Bogotá to confront her “big bad wolf.”
Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, Nikki is a Senior Editor at Fodor's Travel, a published author, the Founder of Unearth Women, and a public speaker. Her first book, Wanderess, was published by Penguin Random House in February 2022. She is also the Founder of Unearth Women, a women’s print travel publication she founded back in 2018, which was featured in The New York Times, Good Morning America, CNN, Vogue Spain, and The Washington Post. In addition to her editorial experience, Nikki is a freelance writer with bylines in Cosmopolitan, Zagat, VICE, Food & Wine, Roads & Kingdoms, and more. As a public speaker, Nikki has spoken at various travel conferences, including the Women’s Travel Fest, Women in Travel Summit, Latino Travel Fest, the Travel + Adventure Show, and the former New York Times Travel Show.
