Authorities are investigating a “suspicious letter” that was delivered to Sen. Susan Collins’ (R-ME) residence in Bangor, Maine, CNN reports. Bangor Police Department Sergeant Wade Betters said in a Monday news conference that the department arrived at the home to “investigate” the letter just after 1:30 p.m. Betters also said the department’s Criminal Investigation Division, the Bangor Fire Department, and a HAZMAT team were on the scene. While Betters said there was no indication the public was in danger, he said the FBI was contacted. Betters did not say why the letter was suspicious, or shed light on why the letter was sent. Collins has recently been under scrutiny for voting to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh after he was accused of sexual misconduct.
