The TSA has reminded everyone they need REAL ID to fly.

While a Costco membership might save you some dollars in your weekly grocery shop, one thing it won’t do is get you through airport security. The Transportation Security Agency has issued a statement clarifying that a Costco card cannot be used as valid ID when flying domestic. “We love hotdogs & rotisserie chickens as much as the next person but please stop telling people their Costco card counts as a REAL ID because it absolutely does not,” the TSA wrote on Facebook. In fairness, up until last month, adult passengers were able to use a range of ID cards to travel and there have been documented cases of Costco cards being waved through. Changes brought in on May 7 though, requiring the use of a ‘REAL ID’ like a driver’s license, put an end to the thrifty life hack.
