In a video released by nonprofit planner, Global Citizen, Chris Martin of Coldplay announced Mandela:100, a benefit concert that will be held December 2nd in Johannesburg. Beyoncé and Jay-Z will be among the performers at the event, which commemorates the continued legacy of Nelson Mandela, who would have been 100 later this month. Fans of The Carters will finally have a chance to see them in Africa, as Beyoncé and Jay have not performed on the continent since 2004 and 2006, respectively. The Carters will join Chris Martin, Ed Sheeran, Pharrell Williams, D'banj, Femi Kuti, Sho Madjozi, Tiwa Savage, and Wizkid at the benefit. Oprah Winfrey will be the keynote speaker. The star-studded event aims to get young people involved in global causes, and according to Global Citizen, will be the “biggest campaign on the Global Goals to end extreme poverty ever.” Fans can earn free tickets by taking action in Johannesburg’s local communities and Global Citizen platforms.
