U2's lead singer Bono lost his voice during a concert in Berlin Saturday, forcing the iconic rock band to cancel their show after only a few songs. “Bono was in great form and great voice prior to the show and we were all looking forward to the second night in Berlin, but after a few songs, he suffered a complete loss of voice,” the band wrote in a statement cited by BBC News. “We don't know what has happened and we're taking medical advice.” BBC added that the disaster occurred midway through the fourth song, “Red Flag Day,” and that by the fifth, Bono stopped the band. “I think we can't go on,” he told fans. “It's not right for you.” He reportedly noted that his voice may have deteriorated due to the smoke machines, and added that “I’m sure this is not a big, big problem—but I'm going to have to do something.” At first, the band planned to take a 30 minute break; fans were later informed that the concert had been canceled. American actress Ashley Judd attended the concert, and tweeted her support for the singer: “The power of #bono voice before it surprised him in #Berlin and left him abruptly...he was singing his guts out (per usual). @u2@U2eiTour The crowd so felt for him as he with surrender was obviously powerless and vulnerable. He’s real and he’s human, too, like we all are.”
