Cadet, an up-and-coming rapper from London, died early Saturday morning in a car crash, according to the Associated Press. The 28-year-old artist, whose legal name is Blaine Cameron Johnson, was riding in a taxi en route to a performance in Central England when his cab collided with another car. The driver of the taxi and the other car were both seriously injured in the crash. Johnson, a rising star owing to millions of views of his YouTube videos, was set to perform at the Wireless Festival this summer, per the AP. Cadet’s cousin, the rapper Krept, said on Instagram that “I am so so broken right now cuz. I love you and i am so proud of you. You finally started getting the recognition you deserved.” Example, a producer and performer, also reacted to Johnson’s death on Twitter, writing, “Smiling nonstop when I was with you, first time we met I felt as if I’d known you my whole life. Mad humble guy. RIP Cadet,” the AP notes.
