Caitlin Clark, Iowa Advance to Final Amid Controversial Call
‘THAT CALL SUCKED’
Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes have advanced to the NCAA final against the undefeated South Carolina after narrowly beating UConn 71-69 on Friday night. But the win wasn’t without controversy. UConn had a chance to steal the win after forcing back-to-back turnovers. However, Aaliyah Edwards was called for an offensive foul while trying to set a screen on Gabbie Marshall with less than four seconds remaining. The call drew widespread condemnation. “There’s probably an illegal screen call that you could make on every single possession,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said after the game. “I just know that there were three or four of them called on us and I don’t think there were any called on them.” Even LeBron James weighed in, voicing his own frustration with the call on X. “NAAAAAHHHHHH!!! I ain’t rolling with that call.” ESPN’s Andraya Carter put it bluntly, “I don’t even know if I can say this on TV, but that call sucked.” Earlier on Friday night, South Carolina defeated NC State 78-59 in the other Final Four semifinal. The title game between Iowa and South Carolina will be played on Sunday.
