A heroic California wildfire victim was found dead still holding a hose that he used to protect his family home of 55 years. Victor Shaw, 66, was discovered by family members on the property north of Pasadena, near Altadena. He is one of five victims of the 10,600-acre Eaton Fire enveloping the area, which is uncontained as of Thursday morning. Shaw was identified Wednesday morning, but safety issues meant his body remained there into the evening. Victor lived at the home with his younger sister, Shari Shaw, who said she tried to get him to evacuate Tuesday before he succumbed to a “firestorm.” She said the pair was running out the door together before Victor said he wanted to stay behind to fight the fire. “When I went back in and yelled out his name, he didn’t reply back, and I had to get out because the embers were so big and flying like a firestorm – I had to save myself,” Shari told KTLA. “And I looked behind me, and the house was starting to go up in flames, and I had to leave.”
