A local CBS News affiliate was forced off the air Sunday night after an intruder entered its building and set off a security panic. The unauthorized person entered the KRQE-TV offices, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, leading to a building evacuation and the channel being knocked off air for 90 minutes. A reporter at the station, Madeline Schmitt, issued a statement from KRQE management that said: “An unauthorized person entered our building Sunday night and police were called. Our broadcast operations had to cease while police searched the premises. A little more than an hour and a half later police gave us the all clear and we were able to continue our broadcast operations.” Schmitt confirmed that everyone at the station was safe and well after the alarm. Newsroom security fears are high after a man shot and killed five people at the Capital Gazette office in Annapolis, Maryland.
