In a Tuesday food safety alert, the Centers for Disease Control warned all consumers in the U.S. to throw out romaine lettuce and not to consume any in light of an E. coli outbreak. The agency told consumers “not eat any romaine lettuce, and retailers and restaurants not serve or sell any” until it learned more about the ongoing E. coli outbreak that has affected 32 people in 11 states thus far. The CDC suggested consumers avoid and throw out “all types or uses of romaine lettuce,” including “baby romaine, spring mix, and Caesar salad,” until the agency was able to identify a common grower, distributor, or supplier, or brand. The last majoroutbreak of E. coli earlier this year killed five after affecting 210 people in 36 states.
