An all-female team that developed an innovative sex toy that initially won an innovation award at the Consumer Electronics Show is claiming gender bias after the honor for the device was revoked. The Osé Personal Massager is described as using “new micro-robotic technology that mimics all of the sensations of a human mouth, tongue, and fingers, for an experience that feels just like a real partner.” The Consumer Technology Association, which organizes the CES, told The Guardian the entry and robotics and drone products category winner was pulled from the exhibit floor because products that “deemed in their sole discretion to be immoral, obscene, indecent, profane, and not in keeping with CTA’s image will be disqualified.” Lora Haddock, founder and CEO of the toy’s developer, argues that a female robot launched at the event in 2018 was a “literal sex doll for men” and was not disqualified. “Men’s sexuality is allowed to be explicit with a literal sex robot in the shape of an unrealistically proportioned woman and VR porn in point of pride along the aisle,” Haddock wrote on her company’s website. “You cannot pretend to be unbiased if you allow a sex robot for men but not a vagina-focused robotic massager for blended orgasm.”
