Many burgeoning artists nervously practice recreating the human body and the Lexington Art League’s Nude 2010 in Kentucky celebrates those who have mastered it. The 24th-annual show is one of Lexington’s pre-eminent visual arts events, featuring 85 works selected from 1,100 submissions. Esther Randall, who made that cut, said she was “looking for compelling content, something that was not dry or superficial or shallow." At the exhibition’s popular Fourth Friday mingling event this week, guests will visit the loosely themed rooms of photographs, paintings, and two-dimensional pieces, giving the show a cohesive feel. Some of the more unusual works that redefine and recreate our perception of the nude include Floating by Sarah Vaughan Knouse, made with strings to appear like an invisible floating body, and Arzu Ozkal Telhan’s video Time-Based Figure Drawing.
