Cracker frontman David Lowery has filed a federal lawsuit against music-streaming service Spotify, seeking at least $150 million in royalties for himself and other musicians and copyright owners. The alt-rocker accuses the company of “knowingly, willingly, and unlawfully” reproducing and distributing copyrighted music. Lowery’s suit claims Spotify has not compensated the distributing rightsholders of some songs available on the service. In a statement Tuesday, Spotify said it plans to pay “every penny” it owes to songwriters and publishers, but “unfortunately, especially in the United States, the data necessary to confirm the appropriate rightsholders is often missing, wrong, or incomplete.”
