Chinese Tech Giant Huawei Sues U.S. Government Over Ban on Its Products

Chinese tech giant Huawei is suing the U.S. government to fight off legislation that bans federal agencies from buying its products, CNN reports. “This ban not only is unlawful, but also restricts Huawei from engaging in fair competition, ultimately harming U.S. consumers,” Huawei Deputy Chairman Guo Ping said at a press conference Thursday at the company's headquarters in Shenzhen. Huawei, the world’s biggest maker of telecommunications equipment, filed suit in Texas asking a federal court to overturn part of the National Defense Authorization Act. Huawei alleges that a portion of the law—signed by President Donald Trump in August to prohibit government agencies from using technology from Huawei and its smaller Chinese rival ZTE—violates the U.S. Constitution. Guo also accused Congress of acting as “judge, jury, and executioner” by imposing the ban.
