Couple Dies in Apparent Murder-Suicide at New York Hospital

An elderly man who said he wanted to end his spouse’s suffering shot his wife in her New York hospital bed Wednesday, before turning the gun on himself, according to reports. Richard DeLucia, 71, caused chaos at Westchester Medical Center when he opened fire with a 0.38-caliber revolver in Ann DeLucia’s fourth-floor room, sparking fears of an active shooter. “I look outside the window of the burns unit and I saw a whole lot of nurses and doctors running outside on their cellphones,” Joel Brown, who was working in the hospital’s burns unit, told NBC New York. Doctors tried to administer aid to the victims, who were both found with gunshot wounds. Richard DeLucia left behind a note saying he was upset over his wife’s medical condition and wanted to alleviate her suffering. It’s unclear how he managed to enter the hospital with a gun.
