Nick Mavar, a star of the hit Discovery Channel show Deadliest Catch, has died at the age of 59 after a medical emergency. The police chief of Bristol Bay Borough Police Department told TMZ that the deckhand died Thursday after the emergency, but did not elaborate. Mavar was a longtime fixture on the show until leaving in 2021 after his appendix reportedly ruptured. He previously sued Captain Sig Hansen over the incident, accusing Hansen of not having proper measures in place to deal with the emergency. Hansen objected to being responsible, instead blaming the production company and the medical company that had been subcontracted. Mavar had since been spotted on his own salmon boat around Bristol Bay in Alaska.
