The vice mayor of a city in South Florida has been shot dead, with her husband arrested. Cops were called to the home of Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen at 10 a.m. on Wednesday to check on her well-being, ABC News reported. When they arrived, they found the former environmental scientist dead inside and took her husband, 40-year-old Stephen Bowen, into custody. She was the city’s first Black and Haitian American female commissioner and was appointed as the vice mayor by her fellow commissioners following her re-election in 2024. “We are heartbroken to share that Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer has died,” the city of Coral Springs posted on Facebook. “She was more than a public servant; she was a light in our community. Her leadership was grounded in compassion, strength, and an unwavering commitment to others. Her impact on Coral Springs is immeasurable, and her loss leaves a void in our hearts.” Coral Springs City Commissioner Joshua Simmons said, “She had such a good heart. She truly cared about people.”
