Emergency-room doctors treating two survivors of a fatal head-on car accident that killed three people in Philadelphia overnight were shocked to find that one of the drivers had 20 self-inflicted stab wounds to his chest and stomach. The accident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday morning on a busy street in South Philadelphia. Three people in their thirties who were passengers in an SUV were killed, including one who was ejected on impact. Two of the victims had just gotten engaged at Christmas. The female driver of the SUV is listed in critical condition. The accident was apparently caused when an Audi sedan driven by the stabbed man crossed the center line and hit the SUV head-on, police said. The driver of the striking vehicle has been identified as 29-year-old Keith Campbell, of Delaware. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but once in the emergency room, doctors called police at the scene to report the stabbing. Police then found a bloody, 10-inch knife apparently used in the stabbing incident. No other people were found in the Audi, but police quickly turned the tragic traffic accident into a crime scene investigation.
